Retro Cafe
About This Spot
Stepping into Retro Cafe feels like uncovering a comforting slice of everyday joy tucked just off the bustle of US-290 in Cypress. This unpretentious Vietnamese and Asian fusion spot invites you into a warm, quietly lively atmosphere where the rhythm is easy and the pace encourages lingering over conversation and shared moments. The space hums with the gentle familiarity of a neighborhood café that has become a small sanctuary for locals seeking both flavorful simplicity and a human touch.
Here, the kitchen’s approach stays rooted in authentic flavors that feel thoughtfully assembled rather than flashy, reflecting the blend of cultures and tastes that shape their menu. The aroma of freshly grilled meats, paired with delicate rice paper rolls and the occasional crisp crunch from wings, mingles effortlessly with the subtle fragrance of artichoke tea or a freshly shaken juice. Each dish suggests stories of home kitchens and local markets, inviting you to savor not just the food but the comfort it carries.
Part of what elevates the experience at Retro Cafe is the genuine kindness woven into the service — the kind that feels like catching up with friends who care about your visit as much as the food itself. The staff’s easy attentiveness and welcoming smiles add layers of warmth to what might otherwise be just another lunch or casual dinner stop. This is a place where familiar favorites quietly hold their own alongside playful combinations, all served with an approachable spirit that encourages exploration at your own pace.
Whether you’re nestled inside or picking up a sandwich to take along, the vibe stays relaxed, keeping the focus on savoring each bite and the moments shared. Retro Cafe feels less like a destination and more like a welcome corner in a neighborhood that’s glad you stopped by.

My husband and I love this restaurant! The food is absolutely amazing! You can’t go wrong on what you order, but what really sets this place apart is the owners. They’re always so kind and welcoming. It’s one of our favorites pho spots in the Cypress area!

First time visit- pork sandwich had a good taste, the coffee was great, the wings with the pickled radish is a must try … great taste and just the right crunchy to the wings. The eggrolls were a good size and good filling with all the trimmings …. Will visit again to try other dishes….. easily located off 290 and Louetta, staff attentive and friendly

Food was good and presentable. My only complaint is the guy not listening when ordering I felt rushed a little bit even thought it was just me there ordering. The ladies that hand you food have good service.

We tried the pho and the grilled chicken sándwich with a Vietnamese coffee. The sandwich was decent and coffee was good. But the Pho wasn’t great. Tasted very sweet, maybe. Bit stale and microwaved.

The combination sandwiches is awesome!!! Very tasty and fresh, they use special ham that I never eat before. The retro roll is also good, they have different layers inside, worth trying! Everything is great I love this place so much w, the location is close to outlets s

The coffee was served hot and flavorful, with a smooth texture and balanced taste. The aroma was pleasant and lingered nicely. The staff was attentive, making the experience comfortable. The flavor carried a subtle richness that made it enjoyable. The finish was satisfying, leaving a lasting impression. Overall, a drink worth remembering.

It's really good. I like coming here when I have terrible days because the food is so good that it reminds me that life isn't as bad. Pho broth is really nice and savoury, the Korean Fried Chicken is REALLY good, has a great crunchiness to it paired with the pickled radish, I just wish they had more radish under it!

A really cool restaurant that has a throwback to the 1980s maybe in 1970s games and toys now granted they are behind glass but they’re still really cool to see the old Nintendo and he-man and Transformers. They also have some cool painting over the fun atmosphere as you look at the restaurant. The food is really good. We really enjoyed it over and got the I got a vermicelli. We also got some fried spring eggrolls. The broth was well developed some of that good flavor, but you wanted it to be a little bit more oof when you think about that to make it more desirable the other thing when you look at the add-ons it had for the fun could’ve really had more stuff to be able to be more desirable. That’s what would’ve made it a five star so for example it’s common if you’re getting Steak you’re getting like steak but meatballs and tripe and maybe even some brisket and so that just takes it to the next level. The vermicelli was a little bit light quantity wise was a little bit smaller than what you’d expect for the price. The staff were friendly and nice and quick at removing items and getting things like extra napkins or forks or chopsticks. Would recommend and if I’m wanting might be back. Just know that it’s tough to say it’s the best fun in Houston when there’s so many different restaurants around town.
